Flaming Wheelchairs and Trash Cans

There are times in life when all you can do is laugh...
The past few days have been no exception to this rule. Without going into too much detail, the bf has been dealing with some health concerns lately. He is going back to the doctor tomorrow for more blood work and hopefully he will get some answers soon.

He's been in terrible pain lately primarily in his hands and wrists. He's also had a great deal of inflammation throughout his body. I truly feel for him because I know exactly what it's like to not be able to function at the level you once did and to feel so hopeless against the pain and whatever it is that is causing it.

To lighten the mood during a rather painful moment for him, I told him that he and I could get matching wheelchairs. He gave me a strange look and then asked, "Can I have one with flames on it?"

"Yes, of course. You can have one with flames on it."

What else can you do but laugh?

My job has taught me to just smile and laugh even when you are beyond frustrated and really feel like screaming. One of my little angels showed her perspective on matters like this today while working on developing her communication skills.

I was working with her on a picture exchange system. After successful trials with Play-Do, she ventured on to the water table. The fact that she put the play-do icon away as well as the play-do should have been my clue that she was done with this silly picture game I had her playing...

After a few trials of blocking the water table and manipulating the toys causing her to have to stop and give me the "water table" icon, she stops to think.

She sets everything down; walks over to where the icon is laying; picks it up; looks at it; looks at me and utters...."trash can?"

No, Leah. You may not throw the icon in the trash can.

If only we could toss all the little icons and interferences of our lives into the trash can when we've had enough of the game of life. Negative balance in the bank account icon? Trash can. Sad face icon? Trash can. Pain? TRASH CAN!

Now all we need is someone to send the, now full, trash cans off in a flaming wheel chair.
